S. Shankar is a novelist, cultural critic and translator. Born in India, Shankar is Professor of English at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa, where he teaches contemporary literatures of the world, translation, postcolonial theory, and creative writing. He is currently working on a book on cultural representations of the poor in a global context.
